60 km tracks to link Noida airport with Howrah, Chennai rail routes

Infrastructure  -  May 22,2024  -

A 60 km railway line has been proposed between Chola in Bulandshahr and Rundhi in Palwal to connect Noida international airport with major routes to Howrah, Chennai and Mumbai.

Officials of North Central Railway have suggested that the proposed tracks be linked with the airport’s ground transportation centre through an underground channel.

The new line will have junctions at Chola – where it will merge with the Delhi-Howrah line – and Rundhi – where it will extend to the Delhi-Chennai/Mumbai route.

This way, trains from the airport can move in different directions.

The railways is likely to submit the detailed project report once the airport concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Ltd (YIAPL), is ready with its design for other connectivity modes such as rapid rail.

Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of Noida International Airport Ltd, said, “The railways sought details about the coordinates of the proposed rapid rail line connecting the airport with Ghaziabad station. They also wanted to know about the tracks that are being planned inside the airport GTC, a hub of various transportation modes under one roof. Once YIAPL submits its report, the railways will file its DPR. Once that is done, the process to construct the railway tracks will be initiated.”
