The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport in Ahmedabad is getting a new “semi-automated” freight terminal next year.
The building of the next terminal has started since the groundbreaking ceremony last week, and the airport operator anticipates the first phase of work to be finished by June 2023.
On the airport premises, the new terminal would be built directly across from the office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
1.15 lakh tonnes of cargo were processed at SVPI airport in 2019, based on data that is currently available. With a built-up size of 33,000 square metres, the new facility can accommodate increases in freight volume in the future.
Of this, the first phase will cover a built-up area of 21,000 sq m.
