Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, told the Lok Sabha that six of the ten development packages for the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway are now under construction. The road in Tamil Nadu is 106 km long, and construction has started in three packages. He was answering a question that wasn’t highlighted.
The last package, which spans 12 kilometres and includes the other half in Andhra Pradesh, has also been given to a contractor, and work is expected to start in a few weeks. The greenfield completely access-controlled signal-free elevated highway is 262 kilometres long and passes through Tamil Nadu (85 kilometres), Andhra Pradesh (71 kilometres), and Karnataka (106 km).
The four-lane wide expressway would cost ₹12,500 crore and is expected to be completed in two years. In Tamil Nadu, the expressway would run through Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore and Ranipet districts.
