The V O Chidambaranar Port Authority has invited private companies to submit expressions of interest (EoI) to expand the port’s outer harbour into a container transhipment centre.
The project would cost Rs 7,200 crore to complete. The outer harbour project, which will be completed in two parts, will have a capacity of four million TEUs per year.
The outer harbour project will have two container terminals, each with a one-kilometer berth length, an 18-meter water depth, and associated infrastructure to accommodate ships carrying 22,000 TEUs.
