UP to have highest number of international airports in India

Uttar Pradesh administration has said that the State will have the most international airports in the country, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foundation-laying ceremony for the Noida International Airport at Jewar on November 25.

The state now has eight operational airports, with another 13 airports and seven airstrips in the works.

The groundbreaking and foundation laying ceremony for the Noida International Airport is set for November 25, putting the state on track to have five international airports, the most of any state in India, according to a statement from the BJP-led state administration.

Uttar Pradesh had only two international airports — Lucknow and Varanasi — till 2012. The third international airport at Kushinagar became operational after it was inaugurated by Modi on 20 October, while work on the airport in Ayodhya is in full swing and air services are expected to start early next year, it said.
