UP to develop dry ports, freight container stations to boost exports

In order to increase exports, Uttar Pradesh, which wants to have a trillion-dollar economy by 2027, is building a network of dry ports and freight container stations. The state intends to work with private parties to create a contemporary logistics environment.

In order to allow quicker movement of export cargo, a dry port is an inland intermodal port that is immediately connected to a seaport by roadways or railroad. The state would expedite land allocations for logistics parks under the UP Warehousing and Logistics Policy 2022 and provide a slew of subsidies and incentives to entice corporate investments.

Storage facilities, cold chains, multi-modal parks, container depots, and container freight stations will all be developed by the private sector with assistance from the state.

“The fresh policy has been framed with an objective of developing a strong logistics ecosystem and fostering an international business and investment environment to achieve the trillion-dollar economy vision,” a government official said. The state targets to hike merchandise exports from Rs 1.56 trillion to nearly Rs 3 trillion in three years.
