Uno Minda Ltd CFO Sunil Bohra said that the auto component manufacturer will spend Rs 175 crore to expand its factory at Neemrana in Rajasthan to fulfil the rising demand for airbags before the mandated norm of six airbags for passenger vehicles and SUVs comes into effect in October this year. According to Bohra, the company, which has a joint venture with TG Japan called TG Minda, is in the business of making fuel caps, weather strips, and sealing parts for automobiles. It has already received confirmed orders for airbags worth about Rs 350 crore. TG Minda business is planning to enhance the production capacity at its main plant at Neemrana to meet the growing demand for airbags as safety regulations become stricter in India, he said, adding, driver and passenger side airbags for frontal collisions are also increasingly equipped on vehicles in India.
