Umwelt Energy to invest $ 850 million in Tamilnadu for green Hydrogen

Danish business Umwelt Energy will invest 850 million dollars to establish a fully integrated green methanol facility in Tamilnadu. The announcement was made on February 1, 2023, when a group from the energy corporation visited the IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai. At the event, a conference on “next generation fuels” was also planned. The facility will have 500 MW of wind-solar hybrid power plants, which will provide the electrolyser with the electricity it needs to create green hydrogen. Methanol will subsequently be created by reacting the green hydrogen with carbon dioxide. The facility would be able to manufacture one lakh tonnes of green methanol annually. The project’s 2,000+ acre minimum land requirement has been met.
