Two highways in Panaji, one from Taj Vivanta to Tonca and the other from Old Patto Bridge to Four Pillars, are expected to be finished by the start of the next financial year as part of the Smart City initiative.
However, according to a department of urban development official, the roads might be finished sooner.
The roads will cost Rs 120 crore to construct. The project varies from typical road projects in that it includes extra work such as subsurface electricity wiring and sewage line installation.
“Those are smart roads. Work would be done also in rains as the government wants to have the work completed at the earliest,” the official said.
Since the road work is extensive, which includes laying of fibre cables, more time is required to complete the project, he said.
