In the second half of 2022, it is planned for India’s first floating LNG facility at Jaigarh, Maharashtra, to begin operations.
It’s also predicted that a second floating terminal at Jafrabad, Gujarat, would begin operations this year.
The floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) at Jaigarh and the Jafrabad terminal run by Swan Energy are expected to enhance regasification capacity by a total of 11 million tonnes annually, according to the International Gas Union (IGU) (mtpa).
India currently has six import ports that are in use. Mundra LNG was the only new LNG import station to open in 2020, adding 5 mtpa of regasification capacity.
There were no new LNG import terminals opened in 2021. Over the previous ten years, India’s “exceptionally high growth” increased its import capacity by more than 160 percent.
India has additional 30 MTPA of capacity under construction as of April 2022 despite having just 39.5 MTPA of regasification capacity at the end of 2020.
