To relieve traffic congestion, the NMMC will shortly begin building of the much-anticipated flyover near the Turbhe railway station, near the densely populated Turbhe store area on the Thane-Belapur Road.
Jaywalking has taken the lives of 15 people and maimed another 25, causing the city council to move forward with the flyover project.
The NMMC recognised the desire of people to build a flyover of roughly 560 metres with four lanes at a cost of Rs 27.70 crore after the idea for skywalks was dropped a few years ago.
The contractor has agreed to complete the project within eight months. According to NMMC sources, work order has been issued to the lowest bidder.
