A 500-acre mega sports city is expected to emerge on Chennai’s outskirts, complete with athletic tracks, an indoor cycling velodrome, a hockey stadium, and a multipurpose indoor stadium for basketball, volleyball, and boxing, among other amenities.
TIDCO, the state-owned industrial development corporation in Tamil Nadu, has issued a call for consultants to prepare a techno-economic feasibility report for the facility’s construction. The center’s goal is to identify and train young athletes who have the potential to become international sports stars.
The project will be built in Thiruvidanthai, which is roughly 30 kilometres south of Chennai along the East Coast Road (ECR).
