The third 800 MW supercritical unit at the Sri DamodaramSanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) goes on stream , providing some relief to Andhra Pradesh, which has been experiencing a power shortfall during evening peak hours.
The supercritical plant at Krishnapatnam receives water for its cooling towers through a specially-laid open channel from the Bay of Bengal, located around five kilometres distant, in a first for the nation.
Opposition parties have also voiced criticism, alleging that the AP Power Development Corporation Limited (APPDCL) is in the process of privatising every aspect of the SDSTPS operations.
