Both Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) and Gautam Adani-led Adani Total Gas (ATGL) have announced intentions to build 10 compressed biogas (CBG) facilities apiece across India.
These facilities will be able to produce up to 30 million tonnes annually. For the construction of these plants, the corporations will each invest up to INR 2500 crore.
The locations of the plants have already been chosen by RIL and ATGL. Five plants will be built during the course of the next five years, while the remaining units will be operational at a later date.
Five CBG facilities will be built by RIL in Gujarat, and the remaining five would be spread out across the nation.
Currently, there is an ongoing development of a plant in Uttar Pradesh with a daily capacity of 600 tonnes, expected to commence CBG production by the end of the current financial year.
