The coal-based North Chennai Thermal Power stage III station, built at a cost of Rs 6,376 crore, is slated to be commissioned in the first week of December and will be Tamil Nadu’s first single unit with an 800MW capacity.
A senior Tangedco official claimed that the Covid-19 pandemic and a few technical difficulties caused the project, which was supposed to be inaugurated in 2019, to be postponed. The unit, which was constructed using the most recent technology, will use less coal and emit less coal dust than other plants. Additionally, it will lessen the State’s reliance on private energy.
Speaking about coal availability, another official said as per Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA), Tangedco must get 23.76 metric tonnes per annum but it has received only 17.11 MT or 72% of the stipulated quantity in 2021-22.
