Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the foundation stone for a 1,000-bed multi-specialty hospital on the campus of the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy, Chennai.
The facility is expected to cost around Rs230 crore to build.
Stalin declared on June 3 that the state will establish a 500-bed hospital in Guindy at a cost of Rs 250 crore.
The health department found at least four acres of property on campus for the development of a multi-specialty hospital in less than a week.
There will be seven storeys in the hospital (ground plus six).
