The Indian division of ArcelorMittal has placed a supply contract for 166MW wind turbines with Siemens Gamesa.
The wind farm is located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Siemens Gamesa has promised to provide 46 of its SG 3.6-145 wind turbines to the project.
One of ArcelorMittal’s steel plants will be powered by clean energy produced by the farm, helping the sector’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the nation.
The agreement was made with ArcelorMittal and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture known as AM Green Energy Private Limited (AMGEPL).
ArcelorMittal vice-president and AM/NS India CFO AmitHarlalkasaid,“Large amounts of clean energy are required to accelerate net zero goals of corporations and countries, and we are happy to have embarked on this journey emphatically in India. Our partnership with Siemens Gamesa for this benchmark model project demonstrates how establishing partnerships and collaborating across the supply chain can help us progress faster toward our decarbonisation targets.”
