Safran to establish maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Hyderabad

The establishment of a maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility in Hyderabad would cost $150 million, according to the announcement made by the French engine manufacturer Safran.

Plans to jointly design and manufacture a next-generation fighter aircraft engine in India have advanced in the meanwhile.

Tthe Safran Group released information about its planned investments, which are anticipated to generate close to 600 highly skilled jobs in India.

Rajnath Singh, the Indian defence minister, attended the meeting with a high-level French delegation led by Olivier Andries, the CEO of Safran Group.

The MRO facility for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines in use by Indian and foreign commercial airlines is expected to overhaul 250 engines a year. Safran, which is one of the leading manufacturers of jet engines in the world, is also in talks with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to co-develop a 110 kilonewton power engine for next generation fighter aircraft.
