In comparison to Kerala’s three other international airports, the proposed Sabarimala airport will have the longest runway, according to a newly updated Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) presented to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, and Kannur).
The proposed airport in Sabarimala would have a runway that is 3500 metres long, 45 metres wide, and has 7.5-meter off-shoulders on both sides. The runway at Kannur Airport is 3050 metres long, with space to grow to 4000 metres, as opposed to the present runways at Thiruvananthapuram and Cochin, which are each 3400 metres long.
The Kottayam district of Kerala is home to Erumely, where the proposed site for Sabarimala International Airport is located. Cheruvally Estate, which formerly housed a rubber plantation, is where the proposed airport would be built.
