Mahanagar Gas and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation inked a memorandum of understanding to build a 1,000 TPD compressed biogas (CBG) plant in the megacity at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.
According to a statement, the utility business, a division of gas giant Gail, will provide the deep-segregated food and vegetable waste for processing at the proposed plant, which has a capacity of up to 1,000 TPD.
The trash, sometimes referred to as CBG feedstock, will be gathered from the city’s hotels, eateries, banquet facilities, and sizable vegetable markets/mandis. BMC will be in charge of managing the feedstock supply, which will also involve delivery, segregation, and collection.
The plant on completion will provide a three-in-one solution, functioning as a biomass waste treatment plant, an organic fertiliser production plant and a green fuel production unit. The compressed biogas produced by the plant will be consumed within the city, it said without disclosing how much will be the energy generation.
