Report ready for three hydropower units in TN

A pre-feasibility study for the construction of three hydropower plants in Tamilnadu with a combined capacity of 2,500 MW has been given to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco).

According to a senior Tangedco official, the corporation instructed the consultant to create the study on January 25 in order to develop 1,000 MW capacity Pumped Storage Hydropower Stations at Upper Bhavani, Sandy Nalla, and Sigur in the Nilgiris, as well as a 500 MW unit.

The consultant just submitted a report on the project’s costs, revenues, and outlays as well as on the civil work, soil compatibility, water storage, and electricity transmission. The official said that the State electricity utility will shortly develop a thorough project study and submit it to the State government for approval.
