In Varanasi, the state-owned energy firm NTPC has launched the nation’s first-ever commercial green coal operation that would turn urban garbage into torrefied charcoal.
According to a business statement, NTPC had planned to produce green coal (torrefied charcoal) from municipal waste almost three years prior.
The project was given to Macawber Beekay by NTPC’s subsidiary, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVNL), on an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) basis. Recently, the first reactor module for the 200 TPD Harit Koyla (Green Coal) Pariyojna plant at Ramana in Varanasi was installed and commissioned, according to the company.
If all three modules are installed, this plant will have a total waste processing capacity of 600 TPD.
