NTPC Ltd has awarded the country’s first green hydrogen microgrid project at its Simhadri facility in Andhra Pradesh.
Green hydrogen is made by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen in an electrolyzer using renewable energy sources like wind and solar.
The fuel has the potential to transform India’s energy security, as it imports 85 percent of its oil and 53 percent of its gas.
India is considering making it necessary for fertiliser factories and oil refineries to purchase green hydrogen in order to boost clean fuels.
