NLC India (previously Neyveli Lignite Corporation) is developing a pilot plant that would produce 1,200 tonnes of methanol per day (400,000 lakh tonnes per year) from 2.5 million tonnes of lignite.
“The feasibility report is ready and has been approved by the board,” NLC India’s Chairman and Managing Director, Rakesh Kumar said.
Kumar said the Rs 4,400-crore project would be implemented on a debt-equity ratio of 80:20.
The project will be completed on a lumpsum turnkey basis by an international technology supplier who has yet to be chosen. The project management contract is anticipated to be awarded to Engineers India Ltd.
