According to a top official, the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) would invest Rs 350 crore in Tamil Nadu to build an offshore wind energy research centre with a test bed with two turbines with a capacity of over 8 MW.
“An offshore wind energy test bed and research centre will be established at Dhanushkodi,” says the company. “We’ve been given 75 acres of land for the project,” NIWE Director General K Balaraman Kannan stated.
According to him, the objective is to erect two wind turbines with a capacity of at least 8 megawatts to research the wind profile in preparation for the development of offshore wind energy projects.
The entire cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 350 crore. Kannan noted that tenders for the purchase of the two windmills would be issued.
