Pune, Maharashtra – Nira Bhima Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd, a leading player in the food processing industry, is embarking on a significant expansion project for their molasses-based distillery in Shahajinagar, Indapur. With the aim of meeting the increasing demand for ethanol and related products, the company plans to expand the manufacturing capacity of their distillery from 30 thousand liters per day (KLPD) to 105 KLPD, at an estimated cost of Rs. 797.5 million.
The project, which received environmental clearance in October 2019, has entered a new phase in January 2023. The expansion plan includes further scaling up the distillery to a capacity of 300 KLPD, utilizing C/B heavy molasses/cane syrup for ethanol production. In addition to the distillery expansion, the project entails augmenting the cane crushing capacity from 3,500 to 7,500 tonnes per day (TCD) and increasing the cogeneration plant capacity from 18 megawatts (MW) to 24 MW. The total investment for this phase is estimated at Rs. 2,900 million, and the environmental clearance process is currently underway.
As of June 2023, the ongoing project encompasses the expansion of ethanol production to 270 kiloliters per day (KL/D), fusel oil to 501 KL/M, CO2 gas to 225 metric tonnes per day (MT/Day), electric power generation from incineration boiler to 6 MW, and the utilization of bagasse and pressmud. The total investment for this phase amounts to Rs. 1,329.35 million. The company has obtained consent from the state pollution control authorities to establish the project, showcasing their commitment to adhering to environmental regulations and sustainable practices.
