Passengers driving into Chennai airport in 2023 would be able to park their cars in a multi-level car park and walk across a bridge to the new terminal, where they will be able to use biometrics to enter the terminal and scan their boarding cards at e-gates to board flights.
In the beginning, the new terminal will handle international flights until a new terminal is completed at the current international arrivals location. This project is expected to be finished by the end of next year.
Once all of the renovation work is done, the airport will be able to handle 35 million people per year. On either side of the metro rail station, two multi-level automobile parking structures are complete.
