New depots for Mumbai suburban rail at the cost of Rs 2,353 crore

By 2025, new car sheds will be installed for Mumbai’s local trains to accommodate the growing suburban rail network.

The planned car sheds will include state-of-the-art features and cutting-edge sensor technology for inspecting trains, which is presently done manually.

Additionally, each car shed will have the ability to support 65 trains at once.

The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is building two new car sheds to maintain suburban trains in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

With a sanctioned cost of Rs. 2352.77 crore, one of the car sheds is being constructed at Vangaon on the Western Railway (WR), and the other is situated at Bhivpuri on the Central Railway (CR).
