Nagapattinam-Thoothukudi ECR to be expanded at Rs 7000 crore

The East Coast Road (ECR) between Nagapattinam and Thoothukudi is being proposed for expansion by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project is expected to cost Rs 7,000 crore.

The coastal districts of Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, and Thoothukudi are all traversed by the proposed route of the Nagapattinam-Thoothukudi section (NH-32). A 332-kilometer segment will also be four-laned as part of the expansion’s scope.

The enlargement project will require building 669 new box culverts, 11 significant bridges over ponds, 45 light vehicular underpasses, 47 small vehicular underpasses, and 22 large bridges, according to the Detail Project Report (DPR). Additionally, six minor bridges and 49 main bridges will be upgraded.
