Mumbai Port Authority floats tender to appoint consultant for port development master plan

The Mumbai Port Authority (MPA) intends to create a 25-year master plan for port development as a whole.

The MPA recently published a tender to hire a qualified consultant to update and expand the Mumbai Port master plan with a planning horizon of 2047.

The deadline for submissions is December 12, 2022.

For the planned comprehensive master plan 2047 for the entire port region, including cargo (future industrialization in the hinterland), land use planning and optimization, hinterland multimodal connection, etc., MPA is looking for an experienced consultant.

The second-oldest port in the nation, Mumbai Port, has long handled the bulk of the nation’s cargo.

Changing trends in shipping industry viz increase in ship size and evolution of containerisation technology and subsequent development of a second port across the bay have brought Mumbai Port to a stage of metamorphosis where it now needs to reinvent itself.
