As part of India’s “Green Growth” agenda, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Engineers India Limited (EIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build waste-to-energy and bio-methanation projects in millions of cities.
With this goal in mind, MoHUA has decided to establish large-scale solid waste processing facilities in cities with populations of one million or more.
In India, there are over 59 million people living in cities such as Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Nasik, Thane, Nagpur, Gwalior, Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore, to name a few.
Nearly 600 million people live in these cities, accounting for roughly half of India’s urban population.
In the first phase, 25 million or more cities will be chosen for the development of large-scale process plants.
