The Ahmedabad metro project’s Phase I, which began in 2015 and was supposed to be finished by 2020, will eventually be launched by the end of August.
The state administration is likely to request inauguration dates from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office.
According to Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) sources, the city’s east-west and north-south tracks would be accessible to the public.
The east-west corridor, which runs from Thaltej Gaam to Thaltej Crossroads, will, however, only be active from Thaltej Crossroads.
Even after the opening, two more stations, Sabarmati and Kankaria East, will remain under development.
A senior officer in GMRC said that in 2016, while laying the foundation stone for the the 19km north-south corridor, then CM Anandiben Patel had said the project would be completed by 2020.
The project, which was planned in 2004, soon after Delhi Metro, will finally see the light of the day.
