The Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemical Limited (RFCL) plant, a gas-based urea manufacturing fertiliser plant at Ramagundam, Peddapalli Telangana, with capacity of 2,200 metric tonnes per day ammonia unit and 3,850 metric tonnes per day urea unit, will be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This would enable the urea sector to become self-sufficient and lessen the nation’s reliance on fertiliser imports. For the resurrection of this fertiliser plant, Engineers India Limited (EIL) is a joint venture partner and consultant.
India is a significant urea importer, relying on imports for about 30% of its annual 35 million tonnes of urea needs.
China, Oman, UAE, Egypt and Ukraine were the main source of Urea. India aims to end imports of urea from 2025 by boosting its local production capacity with the commissioning of new plants.
The government plans to commission and revive five new plants at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Ramagundam in Telangana, Talcher in Odisha, Barauni in Bihar and Sindri in Jharkhand.
These plants are expected to add an additional capacity of 6.5 million tons of urea every year.
