The ports of Pipavav (Gujarat) and Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu) will be developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in order to make them ready to handle the cargo from offshore wind project.
In order to determine what has to be done in these two ports in terms of dredging, land reclamation, shore defences, and docking facilities, the MNRE’s National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) undertook a research.
Rajesh Katyal revealed this at the second UK India Offshore Wind Summit, which was hosted by the UK Government and the Global Wind Energy Council. He estimated that Tuticorin would cost £732 million to develop and the port of Pipavav would cost £622 million.
He said that the Indian government would decide whether the projects would be funded by the government itself or would apply to the World Bank for funding.
