Imerys, a prominent French producer of industrial minerals, is planning to expand its calcium aluminates facility in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh.
The Industrial Mineral Group built a 30,000-ton-capacity calcium aluminates factory in Vizag last year for Rs 350 crore, which the company claims was the single largest location and investment in high temperature materials for the refractory, abrasive, and construction business segments.
According to the proposal, production would rise to roughly 50,000 tonnes by 2030 in order to help India reach its goal of having a 300 million-tonne capacity for crude steel.
Philippe Bourg, senior vice president, Imerys, said that refractory was linked to iron and steel production. “With the capacity expansion in India the potential of growth is huge for us.”
