Mahanadi coalfields to setup 50 MW solar plant in Odisha

In order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2024, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, would build a 50 MW AC (75 MW DC) solar power plant in the Sambalpur region of Odisha. The plant, which will cost INR 301.92 crore to construct, will be developed in Odisha for captive consumption of Mahanadi Coalfields via long-term open access.

Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd has chosen a Chennai-based firm to build the PV project within 10 months after launching a tender in August.

In order to become a net-zero energy enterprise, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd plans to install 182 MW of solar power by 2024.
