The construction and commissioning of the 7-kilometer line from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Retteri junction by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) might be finished in three years, allowing inhabitants of the northern suburbs to board metro trains for their daily journey.
The section runs from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur and is a part of corridor 5. In Retteri, 400 metres of viaducts and pillars have been erected. One of the twin tunnels connecting Madhavaram Milk Colony and Venugopal Nagar was just finished, and the other tunnel will be ready soon.
From 2026 to 2028, the 118.1km phase-2 will be operational in stages.
M A Siddique, managing director, CMRL said the construction of the stretch from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Retteri junction will be completed in 2024 after which tracks will be laid and driverless trains will be delivered by the manufacturer.
