LJM (Lind Jensens Maskinfabrik), a major maker of high-quality hydraulic cylinders based in Denmark, has opened a new facility near Chennai called Oragadam to sell parts to wind energy OEMs. After the facility in China, this will be the company’s second factory in Asia.
The business has committed a €2 million initial investment in the new factory, which will manufacture hydraulic pitch and lock cylinders as well as accumulators for the wind turbine sector. The facility, which has been built on a 4500–5000 sq m plot of land, is slated to begin trial production in July and full production in the third quarter of this year. In the beginning, it is intended to employ 40–50 people.
While the factory will initially supply to Vestas, one of its major OEM customers globally, it will also look into opportunities to supply other companies.
“We follow the wind turbine OEMs to set up shops and supply the parts. We see a great opportunity to set up the unit here given the long-term potential not just in the wind turbine segment but also in other sectors. We have an agreement with some of the big wind turbine OEMs, such as Vestas, ”Martin Anderson, CEO of LJM, Denmark said.
