Linxon India was awarded the contract to instal power supply and overhead equipment for Corridor 3 (from Sholinganallur to Sipcot-2) and Corridor 5 (from CMBT to Sholinganallur) of the phase II project by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
Metro Phase II is planned to have a network length of 118.9 km and 128 stations. It is divided into three corridors: Corridor-3 from Sholinganallur to SIPCOT (45.8 kilometres), Corridor-4 from Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1 kilometres), and Corridor-5 from CMBT to Sholinganallur (47 km).
The Rs 404.45 crore project was awarded following a tender in October 2021.
According to CMRL’s press release, the contractor will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing, training, and commissioning RSS (receiving substation), ASS (auxiliary substation), OHE (overhead equipment) SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), and Switching Stations in the 37 elevated stations of phase II.
