Kerala plans to establish a specialzone for electric vehicle industry

A unique zone for the electric vehicle (EV) industry would be established in the state, according to Kerala Industries Minister P Rajeeve’s announcement.

Addressing the inaugural summit of Electric vehicle owners Kerala (EVOK) in Kochi, the Industries minister said, “It is envisaged that battery production, technology development and other allied businesses can function in the special zone.”

He said that the government is encouraging Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and private companies to set up more fast charging stations in the state.

As per reports, the EVOK is going to set up 30 fast charging stations at various places in Kerala. The 30 charging stations are included in the first phase and later it will be expanded to 100.

Hibi Eden, MP, inaugurated the initiative and launched a mobile application to help EV owners access the charging stations without any hiccups. The mobile application is developed in cooperation with startup firm Charge MOD.
