JICA allocates Rs 1,500 crore for first phase of Madurai AIIMS building

Japan’s JICA has allocated Rs 1,500 crore for the first phase of the Madurai AIIMS building, according to Union Health Minister Mansuk Mandavia.

The foundation stone for an AIIMS hospital on 224 acres in Madurai Toppur was laid in January 2019. So far just the perimeter wall has been completed at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

According to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia, Japan’s JICA has set aside Rs 1,500 crore of the total project cost of Rs 1,977 crore for the establishment of the AIIMS Medical College.
