Grasim Industries Limited‘s Chlor-Alkali production unit at Balabhadrapuram, Biccavolu mandal, East Godavari district, was inaugurated by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla.
The Chlor-Alkali factory at Grasim is the world’s biggest single-location manufacturer of caustic soda. The Aditya Birla Group initially spent Rs 1,000 crore on the project.
It intends to invest a total of Rs 2,500 crore in the project across three phases. The facility will employ 2,450 people directly and indirectly, with locals accounting for 75% of the entire workforce.
Kumar Mangalam Birla expressed his delight over being able to have the presence of Birlas in the land of Godavari and said the Chlor-Alkali plant inauguration heralds a new beginning at the time when Grasim is celebrating its 75th anniversary. “It will further strengthen the bond of Aditya Birla Group with the entrepreneurial State of Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
