Indraprastha Gas and Genesis Gas Solutions enter into JV to build smart meter manufacturing plant

The first integrated smart metre manufacturing plant in India will be built with capital expenditures of Rs. 1100 million, according to a joint venture agreement announced by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and Genesis Gas Solutions Private Limited (Genesis). IGL and Genesis partnered to create the nation’s first integrated, state-of-the-art smart metre manufacturing facility to produce diaphragm gas metres with IoT features including Bluetooth, NFC, LoRa, NB-IoT, and others. These smart metres will offer a critical solution for managing customer energy demand and metering with the highest degree of precision and in real time. The Smart Meter Manufacturing Factory is anticipated to be operational by April 2024 and initially have an installed capacity to produce 1 million metres yearly. Rise in disposable incomes, rapid urbanization, climate stability challenges and government’s thrust towards use of clean energy are leading to increase in market for gas distribution companies thus enhancing the demand for smart metering solutions.
