Indian Oil plans to open the 1,236-crore LPG import terminal at Puthuvypeen, near Kochi, soon.
According to Sanjib Kumar Behera, Chief General Manager and Kerala State Head, over 95% of the terminal’s work has been completed, and dredging for the 1.2 mtpa (million tonne per annum) capacity multi-utility liquid terminal is currently underway (MULT). The project is designed to meet Kerala’s entire LPG demand.
The LPG terminal was supposed to be built in 2008. However, after residents protested, the work was postponed and began in 2018. With the completion of the LPG terminal, Kerala will no longer rely on roads to transport fuel from Mangaluru to bottling plants located throughout the state.
