The integrated Panipat refining and chemical complex, which processes crude oil at a rate of 15 million tonnes per year (tpy), is being expanded by Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. (IOCL) has handed Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T) a contract to perform engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) for a new unit that will be incorporated into the project.
As part of the contract for the Panipat refinery expansion (P-25) project, which includes a 2.5 million tpy residue hydrocracking unit outfitted with exclusive technology licenced from Axens Group, L&T’s hydrocarbon-onshore business will provide EPCC services.
The contract’s scope of work for L&T also includes upgrading the refinery’s current vacuum residue plant for the manufacture of high-value products like diesel.
Axens will supply its H-Oil technology for the residue hydrocracker to enhance distillate yield of the upgraded vacuum residue unit.
