Indian Railways has set a goal to operationalise 100 Gati-Shakti Cargo Terminals (GCT) with corporate participation by 2024 in order to increase freight loadings.
To support and hasten the construction of cargo terminals on the Indian Railways network, a new terminal policy known as Gati-Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal policy has been released.
According to a senior official from the Railway Ministry, 66 private companies have expressed interest in establishing such private terminals, while 10 of these terminals have already been put into operation.
36 players have received preliminary authorisation from the railroads to set up GCT on private property.
The revised terminal policy anticipates that more participants would express interest in setting up GCT due to the streamlined application (online) and approval procedure.
