The Central government is likely to invite a “second round” of applications for semiconductor chip manufacturing in the country under the $10 billion incentive package.
It is also in “advanced talks” with four global semiconductor firms to establish fabs, with those interested including New York-based Global Foundries and a major Korean semiconductor firm, sources said.
The second round of applications is expected to open in mid-March. India accepted five proposals for the scheme last year, with the application window closing in February 2022.
“Apart from applications that the government has at this point, there are four large opportunities, which are in the final stage. So, as and when we open the second window, they will come,” sources added.
