IIT (ISM) to establish coal gasification plant

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is preparing to construct a two tonne per day coal gasifier at its Nirsa campus in order to recover carbon monoxide and hydrogen from coal for use as fuel. This project would be started in collaboration with BHEL under a project contract given by IOCL.

The institutionhttps://www.iitism.ac.in/iitismnew/ is also thinking of opening a hydrogen technology centre.

Institute director Prof Rajeev Shekhar says, “The institute would provide technical services to industries on a commercial basis in near future. We would start a skill centre and a research park at our Nirsa campus to keep the institute abreast with institution of international repute. We would create an artificial mine at Nirsa for research and training purposes”.
