Hydrogen Plant at Jind to cost Rs 70 crore to run first hydrogen train

The initial operating costs of a hydrogen fuel train-set are expected to be higher, but will decrease as the number of trains increases.

With field trials of the first prototype hydrogen train set to begin in fiscal 2023-2024 on the Jind — Sonipat section of the Northern Railway, the national transporter is speeding up the process of retrofitting Hydrogen Fuel cell on existing Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) rakes.

The cost of establishing a hydrogen plant in Jind with a storage capacity of Rs 70 crore would be approximately Rs 70 crore.
