Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), based in Hyderabad, and the Ministry of Defence have agreed to a deal of Rs. 8,161 crore for the production and supply of the Akash Weapon System for the Indian Army.
Two regiments of the Indian Army are covered by the contract, which was signed in New Delhi, and the order will be carried out in three years. Moreover, BDL won a 261 crore rupee order for CMDS from MLH Helicopters.
With the signing of this new deal, BDL’s total order backlog has now grown to an astounding amount of over Rs 24,021 crore.
BDL Chairman and Managing Director, Commodore Siddharth Mishra (Retd), said the signing of the new contract will give a major boost to the Akash programme and both, BDL and its supply chain partners, are geared up to meet the production demands of the weapon system. In addition to the domestic market, the Akash Weapon System is also being offered for export to friendly foreign countries.
